In December of 2019, we heard of the Novel Corona Virus having made landfall in China. It quickly spread across the globe. By March 2020, the WHO had declared the disease caused by the virus, COVID-19, as a pandemic. The virus spread like wildfire. To contain the spread, countries announced lockdowns. This caused companies to shut shop, people to lose jobs, and their loved ones. Life as we knew it changed forever. Little did we know that a tiny virus would wreak so much havoc across the world.
It is the first time since the Spanish Flu of 1918, that we have been united by a pandemic. All of us can feel the same pain and are coping with the crisis in the best possible way. In this poem, I have tried to capture the impact of the Novel Corona Virus on the world.
The Novel Corona Virus
In the year 2019,
there appeared a rare form of the Corona virus that was termed novel.
How it came to be,
is a mystery that the medical fraternity is still trying to unravel.
It began in the Chinese town of Wuhan
and quickly spread across the globe.
Whether it is a natural virus or man-made,
is still under probe.

The disease caused
by the virus is called COVID-19.
It brought with it
death and destruction that none had foreseen.
It starts with
symptoms of a common cold.
In no time,
it can have a stranglehold.
It has impacted everyone
irrespective of class or race.
It is spreading unabated
at an alarming pace.
Wherever it went,
it cast a deathly spell.
Billions of people,
into its clutches fell.
It has given rise to a pandemic
that can be spread by a cough or a sneeze.
It has brought
the entire world to its knees.
