God could not be everywhere and therefore, he made mothers.

– Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling has said it so beautifully!

A mother is a gift from God. Her love is selfless and abundant. She takes care of our every need and ensures our safety.  She sits by our bed side and nurses us when we are ill. When we study late into the night for exams, she too stays awake and brings us refreshments and keeps a watch on us. When we get hurt, mother is the first person we remember, however old we may be!

When we are ready to go out into the world, she boosts our confidence and prays that we succeed in all we do. Even as grown ups, we look to our mother for advice when we are in trouble. Her wisdom always helps us to solve our problems. When we lose hope, she is the one who helps us to believe in ourselves and restores our faith in our abilities.

The world celebrates the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day and this year it falls on May 14th. On this day, children the world over, greet their mother and thank her for all that she does. A mother’s contribution to our life is immense and invaluable. Let’s thank her each day for nourishing and nurturing us and giving us so much love. As I sat mulling over these thoughts, a few lines came to mind and I wrote this poem for my mother. Here it is.

Thank You Mother

When God created you mother,
He ensured that you were like no other.

He filled your heart with love,
Which is infinite and endless.
It is a blessing from above,
That your love is so divine and selfless.

You brought me into this world
And nourished me with healthy food.
You protected me from the heat and cold
And taught me all things good.

You have watched me grow
With pride in your eyes.
You have helped me know
How to navigate life’s lows and highs.

You have given me a wonderful family
And have taught me the importance of sharing.
You have showed me how to live happily
By being kind and caring.

You have been an inspiring force
And a pillar of strength in my life.
Your guidance has helped me chart my life’s course
Through good times and strife.

Thank you mother dear
for love that is so sincere.
