If you live in North America, you may be familiar with the deep azure blue of the Western Scrub Jay. You many have spotted one in your backyard. I sighted this bird in my brother’s   backyard in San Jose, California.

The Western Scrub Jay is a bird native to western North America.  They are also known as “California” Western Scrub Jay. These birds can be easily identified by their colors of deep azure blue, grey and white. They are found in open habitats, orchards, pastures and backyards. They are often mistaken for the Blue Jay, which has a crest on its head.

Since these birds visit backyards, it would be good to set up a bird feeder to attract them. According to the Cornell lab of Ornithology, these birds like sunflower seeds and peanuts. Check out more on Cornell’s Project FeederWatch about what these birds like and how you could attract them to your backyard.
